Distiller aborts when Acrobat data generated

I recently distilled a draft chapter for a colleague but Distiller kept
aborting with this message:

Turning off Generate Acrobat Data in the Print dialogue allowed the
PostScript file to distil to the end, but of course without any bookmarks
and hyperlinked chapter TOC, cross-references, etc.  Presumably the problem
is to do with the DOCINFO pdfMark but what is it?  Any clues out there?
