Dan,
I've already played with the EDD-DTD and Meta-EDD quite extensively. Following
great advice from Lynne Price and using some of the ideas she has shared through
the Meta-EDD and other resources she has made available.
To get started with my versioning idea it's as simple as:
- Create a new EDD then File>Developers Tools>Export Element Catalog as
EDD. (Meta-EDD or ' The EDD for EDDs')
- From Meta-EDD File>Developers Tools>Save as DTD. (Meta-EDD DTD, 'the DTD
for the EDD for EDDs' Is your head swimming yet? ;-))
- From new EDD file Special>Remove Structure From Flow and delete all body
page content. (EDD Template)
So having the Template, DTD, and EDD components for SGML EDDs is straight
forward.
(I suppose simple is a relative term. I get a headache with so many acronym
adjectives being thrown around. ;-) )
What I thought was to work on the EDD in FM and when complete do a save as SGML.
Then various versions of an EDD and various branches can then be stored in a
versioning system as deltas and retrieved as required. Getting the DTDs is as
simple as pulling out the correct EDD SGML file and then opening it in
FrameMaker and doing a save as DTD.
