Hyperlinks in FM book

I have an FM book I need to finish lickety-split. I am creating hyperlinks
within chapters and between chapters. The "internal" links, that is, the links
within a given chapter work without any problems. So too,  the links from the
TOC to the appropriate sections (headings levels 1, 2 and 3) in all the
chapters. 

However, the links from one chapter to a specific destination in another isn't
working for me. Help.

For example, in Chapter ABC I have the following link for the hypertext marker
to a specific location in Chapter XYZ:
    Command=Jump to Name Destination and Fit to Link 
    Syntax=gotolinkfitwin external xyz target 

In Chapter XYZ I have the target link as follows:
    Command=Specify Named Destination
    Syntax=newlink external xyz target 

In all cases the element tag=<Unstructured>. 

What is(n't) going on here?

Any helpful thoughts, advice, solutions out there will be VERY happily received.
